This museum comprises of six palaces: the Winter Palace, Small Hermitage, Old Hermitage, New Hermitage, Menshikov Palace and the Museum of Porcelain.
Saint Isaac’s Cathedral
Isaakievskiy Sobor or Saint Isaac’s Cathedral is the largest Russian Cathedral in St. Petersburg. It is dedicated to St. Isaac of Dalmatia who was a patron saint of Peter the Great. Its main dome is plated with pure gold and it rises to a height of 333 ft. Under the dome a sculpted dove is suspended representing the angel of peace. Its internal features are constructed from multicolored granite and marbles collected from all over Russia.
Peter and Paul Fortress
This fortress was established on May 27 by Peter the Great. This fortress has several beautiful buildings around the Peter and Paul Cathedral. This fortress is the burial site for all the Tsars from Peter I to Alexander III, except Peter II. The new Grand Ducal Mausoleum is connected to the cathedral by a narrow passageway. Other features of the fortress include the mint building, the Trubetskoy and Alekseyevsky bastions, and the city museum.
